Thats not true at all, it would be blatant discrimination which would leave the council open to some rather costly legal action. Some drivers will tell fibs in an effort to discourage people from going into the trade. It would be good practice anyway to call the councils licensing dept. and ask them of any up and coming taxi regulation changes that prospective drivers should be aware of.

I am about to start the process of becoming a mini cab driver. Whilst chatting to drivers in an effort to research the job, one driver said that by october 2010, if you need glasses to read a numberplate, you will fail your taxi licence. Is this true? (If true, is it not discrimination?) As a glasses wearer, I am concerned and dont want to spend all the money only to be out of work in october.
Can you advise please?
