Does anyone know of any good ph insurance firms? My hubby started on taxis in December and we are paying around £300 per month for third party, seems really steep. He works 9am until 11pm 7 days a week and after outgoings brings in about 150 per week... Where are we going wrong?

Hi Sharon, it was about £260 for a settle car last time I drove a couple of years ago (that was at village taxis), radio, insurance, plate, repairs etc are all included in the price. You only need a plate if you have your own car.

Those crimes where committed a long time ago, people change and the panel should have that in mind. As long as you coma across as genuine and honest in the interview (as im sure you will)I think you will be ok. Good luck, let us know how you go.

Hello, please can you help. My son is 19, he hasnt been arrested for 2 half years. He has twoc, common assult, non dwelling burgerly and possesion of small amont of weed on his criminal record. he has worked as a lifeguard for 2 years and has great reference from the fire brigade. Do u think he has a chance of gettin his taxi licience

A CRB check is £45 in Rochdale, £284 for a private hire plate. they are getting really strict on bodywork, anyone thinking of driving here needs to make sure car is spot on.
if car is over 5 years old you need to sign a declaration to say if it fails you can't retest it.

I think you have to re apply for a CRB for every new job you apply for. I called the jobcenter for an answer but even they where not sure! I got my medical done in Liverpool Lee, that was a couple of years ago now so no doubt prices have gone up. Good luck.

hi thanks for replying to my question on the 26,jan i really appreciate it.someone said to me to apply for my brothers badge in bury as they are more lenient than Manchester.well i phoned them today for a general enquiry and told them about the conviction,the lady was being really awkward mannered.she said that if the conviction was in august that they wouldn't consider him at all, and that he had to wait three years from the conviction date to apply.i asked her for the bury taxi application pack to be posted.wot would you say about it as you will know quite allot about this.whats the easiest way to go about this would you recommend anywhere else to apply taking everything in to consideration.thanxxx

i dont think that will be a barrier, but it will require more cocking about than a normal application and being scrutinised by the council etc. In general, as long as the crimes are not the likes of drunk driving, sexual crimes or violent crimes they will normally approve you without much of a fuss.

Hi Faraz, there is nothing stopping you. You will be scrutinised more than most. Just be up front about it when you apply, it may save you and them time. I know of a couple of people whit records who drive cabs. The only difference with their applications was they had to face an interview panel, this is to gauge your character and quiz you about your conviction etc. It wont be pleasant but it need not be a barrier. Hi, there are no books i know of as taxi driving varys greatly from county to county. The initial application is free, but you may need to pay for a test, dvla mandate, plates etc as you progress through the application process. Here is a link (copy and paste it to your browser) for all the fees you have to pay in Liverpool just as an example:
